About

A Little more than just Burger Reviews

The Greensboro Burger Blog is a creative community project of Mischief Makers Local 816. The idea is simple but with a little twist: Every week we eat burgers at a local Greensboro restaurant. We'll then chronicle all the vitals of the vittles here, rating every aspect of the burger from bun to beef. Simple enough, right? But we want to be more than just a burger review blog, so each week we also invite a local personalities along with us to share the breaking of bread (and meat). You can learn a lot about your neighbors by sharing a meal together. We'll get their opinion of the burger and we'll also share what we learn about them as well...maybe juicy secrets, maybe just a little known fact about someone in our community.

In our adventures we hope to reach the far flung corners of our community; share the history and story of the establishment, it's owners and the people who work to make it special; find little gems hidden in the Greensboro sprawl; and make connections with the other people in our community who make Greensboro awesome.  It is the people of this community that make it great. And I unabashedly believe Greensboro is Great.

Our goal is to have some fun adventures, meet some great people, and inspire you to venture outside of your normal haunts and explore Greensboro and connect with your community. We hope this is a shot in the arm, a slap on the ass, and hearty go get 'em tiger.

What is a Mischief Maker?

Mischief Makers Local 816 is a Union of Creative individuals with the intent to make our community more fun in sometimes usual, and sometimes perhaps unusual ways.  The word 'Mischief' often has a negative connotation, but the definition of mischief we are going for is one of "unorthodox playfulness but with the intent to do no harm". We may sometimes annoy, vex, and otherwise be a thorn in the side of a plastic mindset, but we never harm.

Mischief Makers Local 816 has been responsible for things you might actually have enjoyed:
Our main business is the lifestyle brand Home State Apparel which makes the ever popular NC "home." shirts and stickers. We also started the First Friday Indie Market which takes place on First Friday's in Downtown Greensboro. After handing of the running of the First Friday Indie Market 4 years ago, we co-founded and continue to help run the Hand to Hand Market. We do the Craft Scene Coordinating for the Fun Fourth Festival, We tried to run the South Elm Urban Market- the short lived Sunday Farmers market downtown-which, although "failed" was able to donate some money to The City Market to help get started...so we still count that as a win. We also are working on some new fun projects: public murals, local business collaborations, maybe a new large festival. We got a book full of ideas and are always looking for new Mischief Makers to join the union.

The name Mischief Makers is in honor of my son, Marley Mischief Osyrus Vantreese, the first Mischief Maker. And yes, his real middle name is Mischief.
