Lisa the Warehouse Fairy goes to the Big Burger Spot

Hey-yo Internet patrons! It’s Lisa, also known as the Mischief Makers Local 816 Warehouse fairy. I am one of the hands behind the Home State Apparel magic. I pull orders, double, triple, and quadruple check them, fold them, and box them up all pretty. So when the Zekenator (more formally known as my boss) asked me to write a review for The Burger Blog, I was thrilled. After a long day of classes, and making magic happen at the warehouse I was ready to embark on the burger adventure. But where should I go? Let’s see what Randy thinks.
Here is Randy, my partner, and trusty co-pilot on the burger adventure. By trusty I mean he has had his fair share of burgers. This is his face when I tell him our mission. We decided to make the journey to The Big Burger Spot on Battleground, as we both have yet to get our hands on one of their chargrilled patties. You might recognize the name since they caught some media attention recently when Steve Harvey stopped by to try the popular “Steve Harvey Burger”. Of the two locations the restaurant has we chose the one at 3750-A Battleground Avenue. This true-blue burger joint is settled right next to Taco Bell and Walmart in an Exxon Gas Station center.  We pulled into the parking lot around 6:15 and I could tell right away it was poppin’ off.

There is a nice side patio with picnic style seating for warmer days, with a mural of local guests pets called “Pet City”. For 60 bucks you can have your dog, or cat painted on the wall, how tempting. We rush inside before I get too attached to the idea.

While waiting in line to place our order we peruse the menu which is fully equipped with 13 original burgers, 14 ways to order your fries, hot dogs, 10 unique sandwiches, full salads, spicy soups, milkshakes and desserts. Holy Moly. Lovely gal at the register, who could tell we were struggling with all the options, welcomed us. She recommended the Black & Blue, and Cheddar fries.

Randall decided on the Pimento Cheese Burger which is topped with house-made extra sharp pimento cheese, Applewood smoked bacon, lettuce & tomato. YUM! Too bad he beat me to it, I think I could eat a couple of these bad boys. He ordered it medium-rare. Burger Spot gives you the option of adding cheese, bacon cheddar, chili, bacon ranch, loaded nacho, or white truffle oil to your fries. This is one of the only places in Greensboro that I have been to with such an abundance of possibilities for your fries. Randall decided to get the White Truffle Fries. I decided to get the Black & Blue Burger with Applewood smoked back & blue cheese and the bacon-cheddar fries. The lady gave us two cups for lemonade, an order number and we were on our way to find a seat. Thankfully there was a single high table with bar-style seats available in the back corner. I could imagine this being a fight-to-the-death scenario if it was any busier.
A short 10 minutes later our burgers were hot off the infrared grill. I am being modest when I say that the Black & Blue is absolutely divine. The diner-style seating area is small, but comfortable, and what you cooked to perfection with a juicy flavor, no grease. Slightly crispy on the outside, soft and sweet on the inside, the brioche bun is truly the icing on the cake! The fries were drenched in cheddar and bacon, and to be honest, I wasn’t a fan. Maybe that was because I was stealing little bites of Randy’s white truffle oil fries, which were superb. Randall’s house-made Pimento and bacon burger was off the hook! Of course I tried a bite…or two. This Pimento is a definite competitor for the famous Emma Key’s house-made Pimento and that is coming from someone who has bought Emma Key’s pimento by the pint! The toppings were all fresh and crunchy, something that is pretty important to Randy and I. I would say the Burger Spot is well worth the drive down Battleground, and southerner’s burger paradise. I am looking forward to returning to this spot to eat on the patio with my pups once it gets warmer and yes, I will be getting the Pimento Cheese burger and no, I will not be sharing.
